Sun swim, fun fence

Did my full swim workout today. Felt like I was at about 95%...I seemed to be a little fatigued on laps 9 and 10 of whatever I was doing and my legs didn't want to add another lap at all. It was the first time that the sun has shined while I was swimming though so the pool was very bright and it really helped energize me. After updating my pentathlon page yesterday, I realize I still have a long way to go in all my events. The Portuguese pentathlon site has a lot of great swim workouts, so I may try to add in some of these soon. I also have collected all my triathlon articles on swimming and running and will try to incorporate these too.

Its been a couple weeks since I last fenced, so it was great to get back. Arrived in time to do the footwork and then fenced Anne Telles. She is so much fun to fence! Then I had a lesson with Garik. Worked mainly on point control and going for the openings. I still tend to over think things. Also worked on some disengages and distance. Anne and Bill came up with a great "name your pentathlon" that I've put up on my pentathlon fun page.

Aim for the path

Went to fencing for the first time in a month. I was a little rusty at first and my feet and wrist got tired pretty quickly, but I was surprised at how quickly my hand work came back. Because I tired quickly, I had to stay relaxed and use the "aim for the path, not the target" philosphy. I got many touches this way...with almost no effort at all. Fenced Anna, George and Greg. I also went up against a new fencer, Cash, who I had not seen at the club before, but since he had his name on his uniform, had obviousely fenced at high levels in the past. He had a very different style, was much quicker, longer and energetic than people I've fenced prior. I did get several touches though, so I was pleased. Not too bad for a month off.

Chez Salle Auriol

Back to Salle Auriol after watching the Winter Open fencing events. Boy do I have a long way to go. I missed the footwork portion of the night, but had the chance to fence a few more epeeists. I learned a few things from watching others at the winter open, and did a little better against some people that I had fenced before, but I still seem to be having the same weaknesses that I had before. As always, George gave me some pointers, and fencing with Anne Telles is always a pleasure - both are left handed by the way. George and I actually did some pentathlon bouts to try out the one touch thing. For a old guy, he sure has a lot of tricks...he ended up winning again. But at least I know where my opportunities are.
